About the Department

The Department of English at Jawaharlal Nehru College comprises a team of highly qualified faculty members, all holding doctoral degrees, along with a dedicated language lab trainer. The Department is actively engaged in teaching English Literature at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels, while also expanding into areas such as English Language, Business Communication, and Soft Skills development.

With a progressive and innovative approach, the Department promotes the use of English across all streams. A distinctive strength (USP) lies in the adoption of modern teaching methodologies, including PowerPoint presentations, live streaming through platforms like YouTube, web-based resources, and audio-visual teaching aids to enhance learning experiences.

A. Foundation Course

The Department conducts a compulsory Foundation Course in English for approximately 3500 students across disciplines including Humanities, Commerce, Science, Management, and Computer Applications. This initiative ensures a strong institutional presence and helps students adapt to an English-speaking environment with ease and confidence.

B. English Literature Programs
